Doctor Who (Seasons 8-10) (2014-2017)
Doctor Who (Seasons 8-10)
So I wasn’t as impressed with these seasons as I was with the previous ones. Not to say they’re bad in any way, but some of the writing just felt a bit off. A lot of episodes were extremely good, and then there were some that were just odd. Of course, it’s a very odd show, but they were odd even for Doctor Who standards. These seasons have the same cheesy feel like the other ones do, in a really good way. I always love having a laugh at some of the corniness. There are times to be serious, but also times to laugh at it and just have a good time. Story-wise, these seasons did a great job of keeping some continued storylines, while still having some random episodes. Season 10 in particular is a great example of that. The final few episodes of Season 10 were also really good, with a fantastic send off to the 12th Doctor. Peter Capaldi has easily solidified himself as probably my second favorite Doctor ever, only after the 10th. He brings such a weathered, beaten look to the role, while still having a very playful attitude. He’s wise and experienced, while still a child at heart. He’s also one of the more emotional doctors I’ve seen. His range is amazing. Regarding the other companions, it was certainly sad to see Clara go (as she’s one of my all time favorites), but it opened the door for new, fresh faces. The introduction of Nardole and Bill was a bit questionable for me (at first), but they very quickly grew on me. They’re both very likable. The special effects were pretty solid, though, like the previous seasons, sometimes very obvious. It sometimes has the low budget look (or what I call “the CW look”) to it, though that’s what makes it enjoyable. Lastly, the music is great, though not what it was like back in the late 2000s for the show. Overall, I very much enjoyed the season, though I do definitely have some nitpicks about it. I’d recommend it to any Doctor Who fan. These seasons are officially Berry Approved, so go watch them now!
