High School Musical (2006)
High School Musical
As a grown man, I can honestly say I love this movie immensely, just like every other grown man does. It’s one of the most slept-on movies ever. Horrendously underrated. I can’t say how many times I’ve seen it, but upon this review, it was probably my 8th or 9th rewatch. Maybe 10th or 11th. It’s just so good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not super well made, but not horrible. The writing is pretty crappy, both story-wise and dialogue-wise. It’s cringey, corny, and cheesy. The triple threat. It’s much like both Camp Rock’s, where everything is music centered and super dramatic when it shouldn’t be. Personally, I very much enjoy the plot, even if some of it is just bad and not very realistic. I just choose to ignore it. I really like all the characters too, no matter how obnoxious they might be. The acting is pretty bad at times (well, most of the time) but I don’t care. It’s so bad it’s good. Zac Efron is actually pretty decent, though everyone is kind of trash. But man do I love it. The soundtrack is insanely good, and one that I listen to on a monthly basis. There, I said it. I love the mid 2000’s Disney sound it is, which surprisingly isn’t as bad as you think it’d be. It’s catchy, somewhat strong with lyrics, and super fun to sing along to. Overall, I absolutely love this movie, although it’s far from being a well made movie. But I’m being extremely lenient and giving it a good score. I’d recommend it to most musical fans, especially if you like Disney/corny ones. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
