School of Rock (2003)
School of Rock
I’m not sure why I waited to watch this for so long. I knew it was an iconic piece of American cinema, but golly, this was amazing. I understand now why basically everyone has seen it. At first, I thought it was gonna be a goofy musical, maybe along the lines of ‘High School Musical’ or ‘Camp Rock’ or one of those corny classics. However, it was much more than that. It takes the ‘Rocky’ and ‘Champions’ route in terms of believing in yourself, but not having to win to show how great you are. I’m about to sound really cliche here, but everyone has an inner champion in themself, and this movie proves it. You get to experience the discovery of teamwork through music and good ol’ fun. I also love how it’s both serious yet very comedic. There’s a few moments where you generally care about the characters, but then other moments where you just let go of your laughs and enjoy Jack Black’s performance. The story is great, though I won’t say more than I already have. I’ve basically explained it all very simply, but just know that it’s awesome. Of course, there are some little bits that are just silly and cheesy, so it’s not a perfect movie. But, I absolutely loved it, and I know you will too. The music really makes you bob your head and tap your fun, even the silly songs. Though he’s acting, Jack Black is actually an awesome musician and singer. Overall, this movie is hilarious and well made, and I’d definitely recommend it to all musical/comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
