Fear Street Part Two: 1978
Though this movie is a definite step up from the first, it’s still mediocre at best. I think the only big reason that it’s better (and more enjoyable) is because of the kills and antagonists. Having it set in the late 70’s gives it such a more nostalgic horror feel, which was a feel the first movie didn’t really have. On the downside, the 70’s vibe with the summer camp setting basically made this movie feel like one of the Friday the 13th’s. I didn't feel like I was watching anything special or new. It’s a good sequel in terms of storyline and continuity, but besides that, it feels the same as the first movie. Essentially the same antagonist, just in a different form. The acting was a little better, though all the characters still sucked. They were obnoxious and I wasn’t sad at all when some of them met their untimely demise. It really played into teen stereotypes, especially with the whole counselor and camper thing. Like I said, it was basically Friday the 13th. The kills were really good, and the gore was great, but that was one of the few exciting parts of the movie. Besides that, it’s another cheesy horror that didn’t really work out for me.
