Alien vs. Predator (2004)
Alien vs. Predator
I definitely can’t say that this is the best movie ever made, because it’s very silly and uses a lot of ideas we’ve already seen in previous films. To me, and this won’t make sense until you see this, but the movie is ‘Aliens’ meets ‘Predator’ meets ‘Indiana Jones’ meets ‘Doctor Who’ meets ‘Star Trek’ meets ‘National Treasure’. Like I said, a lot of elements from the past are mixed into this movie. It was a bit of a mess, with a lot of character buildup in the first hour, only for most of them to be demolished by a xenomorph or a predator. It was a very thin story and doesn’t serve much purpose. It doesn’t add too much to either franchise. The characters were also horrendous, mostly because they were all bland and had zero personality. The movie spends way too much time introducing them for a movie that should’ve been more action centered. Speaking of action, I did really enjoy all the scenes with the xenomorphs and predators, and they continue to look awesome. The queen xenomorph in some scenes was just a giant animatronic, which was sweet. I’m glad they’re still using practical effects and suits for the creatures. There were some moments where CGI was very evidently used, which was disappointing. But I wasn’t surprised at all. Overall, critically, this wasn’t super good, but I had fun for most of it, and it has an ending that makes you want more. I’d probably recommend this if you like goofy “versus” movies, and obviously if you like the Alien and Predator franchises.
