The Big Short (2015)
The Big Short
Strap yourself in, cause this movie moves quickly with a ton of stuff to grasp. It was very solid with a strong story and strong characters, although for me, I definitely found a few spots that were a bit slow and confusing. I obviously know very little about banking and real estate, so it was hard for me to pay attention in some spots. It reminded me a lot of ‘Moneyball’, ‘Air’, and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. If you watch ‘Moneyball’ and you’re not a fan of baseball, you won’t like it as much. For this movie, if you don’t really care about economics or banks, it can be hard to find a reason to watch. That was kind of the case for me. However, I mostly enjoyed it. The great performances really help carry it. Of course, the basis of truth behind the story really keeps my attention. Any kind of movie based on a true story makes it so much more enjoyable for me. I love being able to see how history happened, but in a dramatized fashion with actors I know. One thing I loved about the movie is how it moves at a decently quick pace, so it keeps you hooked in (for the most part). There are definitely scenes that really grab your attention, but like I said, there are also some that kind of lost me. The whole thing reeked of the mid/late 2000’s, which is kind of helpful, but also a little much for me. It worked for what it needed, but there were some bits that made me think “why was that included?” Another thing I loved was all the performances. The frontline of Gosling, Bale, Carell, and Pitt was extremely solid. Everyone was very, very well cast. The soundtrack was also very solid as well. Overall, this movie was good, though it might be a while before I watch it again. I’d probably recommend it if you like dramas/business movies. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
