Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Watching this for the first time was a long time coming. I’m not sure why I waited so long, because I’ve certainly seen the cult following that this has built. Now that this movie is getting an anime series with the original cast returning, that really piqued my interest in watching this. So I did, and boy have I been missing out. I do have a couple little complaints about it, but for the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never realized it derives from a comic, and upon watching it, you can very clearly see the comic influence. It feels very similar to the Spider-Verse movies, but live-action. It was super, super sweet to see the style of filming this had, and it’s easily one of the most creative and uniquely shot movies I’ve seen. I won’t say why, because I want you to see it for yourself. It’s just a great first time watch. The story is also well written, although some bits start to get old. It basically repeats the same thing over and over, so the movie overstays its welcome after a little. But, it’s still good because it does the same thing in different ways. If you’ve seen this then hopefully that makes sense. And that’s just my opinion. I didn’t find it boring, but I just needed it to move a little faster. I think that’s my only big complaint. Everything else was super fun. The cast is absolutely stacked, and I had no idea half the people in this were in this. I mean, Michael Cera is amazing as always. He doesn’t miss with any of his stuff. I also LOVED seeing Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman. I could go on about the style of this film, but I’ll let you decide for yourself if you like it or not. Overall, it’s very well made, although the pacing was sometimes strange, but the cast and action make up for it. I’d recommend it to all action/romance fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
