The Nun II (2023)
The Nun II
This will definitely go down as one of my favorite ConjuringVerse movies. I liked it much better than the first one, even though it’s still not a super great movie. Like the other ones, it definitely has its flaws, but I still love it. Watching it in ScreenX was really, really neat. I think in terms of scariness, it’s definitely one of the darker ones in the ConjuringVerse. Of course, they’re all really dark, but this one had some moments that really make it stand out. It also has, arguably, my favorite moment in any Conjuring movie. Story-wise, it wasn’t super special. It felt a lot like the first movie in terms of good vs evil. Nothing crazy (unless you consider a power hungry demon crazy). It was simple, yet still very fun. It kind of takes its own direction, while still taking some of the same turns the first movie did. But, it takes those turns in a cool way. The setting was also really great. Although the first movie has a creepier feel because of the scenery, this one was hauntingly beautiful. Especially the scenes on the street. The cinematography was actually really good, and probably very underlooked. The CGI and effects were really good as well. Right when you think Valak can’t get any more horrifying, she (or he?) does. There’s just something about a demon nun that gets to you. The rest of the characters were somewhat solid, but nothing super great. Of course, Sister Irene is Sister Irene, and Maurice is Maurice, but everyone else kind of sits on the sideline, even though there are several prominent roles. Overall, this movie was pretty entertaining, though not super duper well made. It has it’s awesome aspects, but also some nitpicks I could go through. However, I don’t wanna drag this movie because of the fun I had, so I’ll keep it positive. I’d definitely recommend it, especially if you’ve seen the first one.
