A Christmas Story (1983)
A Christmas Story
I will start off by making the bold claim that this is the greatest Christmas movie of all time. You can go debate a wall. If you say that any other Christmas movie is better than this one, then you’re just wrong. No, this one isn’t my favorite of all time, but it’s certainly the best. My only complaint (which is very tiny) is that there’s a few spots that get repetitive. Besides that, this movie is perfect in every single way. The atmosphere, the setting, the characters, the plot, it’s just all so comfortable and traditional. That early 40’s feel is just so homey, and I can’t get enough of it. Rewatching this in 2023 just makes you realize how genuine Christmas was in 1940. I know it was the middle of WWII, but not having phones or screens to distract you just makes it feel so authentic. I hope that makes sense. No distractions, just being with your family and enjoying each other’s company. I mean, the shot of Mother and The Old Man just sitting on the couch in the dark, watching the snow fall, with the lights of the Christmas tree shining? It’s one of the most beautiful, perfect scenes in cinema history, and it always makes me feel warm and cozy. This is what the whole movie does. It gives you such a great feeling of great joy. The story is original and hilarious, with constant mishaps, but everything always works out. Just an average Christmas season in an (almost) average family, and you get a great taste of it. All the characters add such a great feel as well. The kids are random but pure, and the adults are a little crazy but you feel like you personally know them. By the end of the movie, you feel like you’re a part of the Parker family. I can’t rant about this movie enough. If arguably the most comfortable movie of all time. When I say comfortable, I mean it gives you that happy, warm, fuzzy feeling of Christmas. If you haven’t ever seen this, do yourself a favor and experience it for the first time. I promise you’ll love it. You will have so many regrets if you don’t. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it NOW!
