Predator (1987)
Predator
This is the first movie of one of the most iconic franchises in cinema history, and it certainly starts it out strong. When you want action, sci-fi, and a killer monster all rolled up into one, then this is just for you. It was absolutely great. It was unique, although it reminded me of several other movies. To me, it felt like a combination of three different movies: ‘Rambo: First Blood Part II’, ‘Full Metal Jacket’, and ‘Alien’. Mush the three of those together and boom, you got ‘Predator’. I love the jungle setting, which mixes the action/adventure element beautifully with the sci-fi stuff. You get pieces of both realism and fantasy. The characters were great, and they are what help contribute the ‘Full Metal Jacket’ feeling. There’s some comedy sprinkled in, while still maintaining a very serious attitude. Of course, Arnold is one of the highlights, and he successfully hands forth one of his best roles. He’s almost like Rambo, except he’s fighting a frigging alien. And speaking of the alien, wow. What a design. It’s so iconic, and just straight up sweet. It’s one of the coolest looking movie creatures ever. The effects were decently good for 1987, though with some very obvious CGI. Sometimes it looks goofy, but that’s what gives it the great feel of an 80’s action flick. Overall, this movie is well made. I’m definitely ready to watch my way through the franchise, and I’d recommend this to all action/sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
