Longlegs (2024)
Longlegs
Happy birthday to you…happy birthday to you! Happy birthday Lee Harker….happy birthday to you! I just thought that would be a good way to open this review. I think I’m gonna try to keep this one shorter than normal, because Longlegs is a very rare occurrence of a horror movie being masterfully made. There’s been some good ones, but this knocks those out of the park. It’s ‘Silence of the Lambs’ meets ‘Se7en’ with some supernatural elements of its own. I love how grounded it feels while still having a very sinister feeling behind it. As for it being “scary”, that depends on what your own personal definition is. Personally, I was never scared, but there were certainly scenes and moments where my heart was racing and I felt very nervous. The negative vibe it projects is amazing. The story is well written, and while I can understand some of the weak points of it, there’s definitely more good than bad. The performances were stellar, especially from Nic Cage and Maika Monroe. Both used every second of screentime to their advantage. The sound was absolutely perfect, and it helped add to the suspense and dread. The cinematography was astounding, with different ratios that fit the setting and situation, and drabby colors that suit the tone but are still crisp. I’m gonna stop before I say anything else too specific. It’s a beautiful movie that’s haunting and disturbing, but still fun and entertaining. It’s a modern horror masterpiece, and one of the best horror/thriller of the decade. I’d recommend it to everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
