True Grit (1969)
True Grit (1969)
As the only movie where John Wayne ever won an Oscar, he definitely did a great job. He makes Rooster Cogburn his own character, and he does a great job of playing the gritty U.S. Marshall. The overall story of this movie was decently good, and it had the classic western feel to it. Although the plot did feel a bit cliche, it was still executed pretty well. It’s always fun to see John Wayne go hunt down some murderers, and it never gets old. However, despite the great action scenes, the rest of the movie felt really slow, and some points of it were kind of boring. The acting of both Glen Campbell and Kim Darby felt very dry and dull, which didn’t help make the movie any better. Although I loved their character’s, the acting in itself was not that good. Like I said, John Wayne does an excellent job, and I really liked Robert Duvall as well. Although Duvall didn’t have a whole lot of screen time, I still enjoyed seeing him. The setting of this movie was beautiful, and they did a great job of picking the scenery for this movie. It used a little bit of everything in terms of scenery, which was nice to see. The music was really good, and though it has the cliche Western feel, it has a really great main theme. Overall, this movie was pretty good, and I’d recommend it if you like Westerns or John Wayne. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
