Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Blade Runner 2049
Coming in as the 34th perfect movie in Berry History, this is a strong sequel to Blade Runner. Despite being connected, this movie could still be a stand alone sequel, which is nice. It’s also one of the few sequels that I believe are better than the original. Although a previous character returns, and the events from the first movie are mentioned, you could probably watch this without seeing the first one and still enjoy it. I also really liked this sequel because of the way it builds its own story, and doesn’t ride off the first movie. I loved the story, and though the whole “kill the replicant” thing is the same, this movie still feels like its own. And like I said, it doesn’t rely on the success of the first movie to make this one good. Now it definitely feels long, and there were a few scenes that felt pretty slow, but overall, it keeps you interested. I’d even go as far to say that this is one of the best sci-fi movies of the 2010’s. It’s entertaining, packed full of color, and has a great cast. I really loved most of the characters, and they all did a great job. I thought Ryan Gosling was the perfect man to play K. He shows very little emotion, which is actually exactly what you want for his role. Being able to see him in this role was special. And although he doesn’t show any of his emotion, you can still see it through his eyes. I also loved Ana de Mommy, I mean Ana de Armas. Robin Wright was great as well, and of course, the return of Harrison Ford was awesome. I loved seeing some more from his character, as well as some of his history. The ending was nice because, without spoiling, it’s a nice way to wrap up the movie with his character. The cinematography was spot on, and the colors used in the setting were vivid and gorgeous. It has the same Doctor Who/Star Wars look that the first movie had, which was nice. I love seeing a director’s take on the future, and this one doesn’t disappoint. There were so many scenes and shots that were breathtakingly beautiful, and this is easily one of the most visually pleasing films I’ve seen. The music also helped build the story, much like the setting. It was very futuristic and space-y, without going over the top. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to all sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
