Newhart (1982-1990)

Newhart

  • Very easily one of my favorite shows of all time, this is the show that makes me most comfortable. I would say that Everybody Loves Raymond is my comfort show, but Newhart does a great job of putting you in a happy and comfortable mood. It’s set in an inn located in Vermont, which is what makes the show so beautiful. The production quality of the show itself is great, and it has the classic fuzzy format that many 80’s shows had. The whole premise of the show is awesome, and though it might seem boring at first, you’ll find that it’s hilarious. The characters of this show make it what it is, and each and every one of them has something special and crazy about them. All the characters are written extremely well, and watching their lives over 8 seasons is fun and interesting. The only normal characters on this show are Dick and Joanna, and everyone else is basically crazy. Watching Michael and Stephanie’s romance have its ups and downs is really entertaining, it’s pretty hilarious. Both of their personalities are self-centered and snobby, which makes them such great characters. They’re awesome because even though they’re snobby, they still have good hearts. George is definitely one of the best characters, and though he’s somewhat slow, he says the right thing at the right time, and he always makes me laugh. The minor characters such as Jim, Chester, Officer Shifflett, Ms. Goddard, and Harley, make this show so special. Although you don’t always see them, when they show up, it’s always a funny moment, and they are all just ridiculous people. Especially with Jim and Chester, they are dumb and hilarious, which immediately makes them awesome. But out of all the characters mentioned, my favorites (and the best) are Larry, Darryl, and Darryl. They are totally weird and odd, and everytime they come on the scene, I always smile and get ready for a laugh. The best part is how Darryl and Darryl don’t talk throughout the entire show, except for the last episode. Speaking of the last episode, it’s probably one of the greatest show finale’s that I’ve ever seen in my laugh. I absolutely lost my crap at the end, and it totally trips you up. It was an absolutely crazy moment, and it was the perfect way to end it. The main theme of this show is really great, and it perfectly fits the mood and setting of the show. It’s one of my favorite TV theme songs, and it’s nice and happy. Overall, this show is phenomenally great, and although there are a few episodes that are a little strange, everything else is absolutely amazing. Bob Newhart’s dry comedy is awesome, and his straight-faced deliveries are what give the show its special spin. I would highly recommend it to those who like sitcoms, as well as some freaking great comedy. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
