Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 (1988)
Hellbound: Hellraiser 2
Surprisingly, this was not as bad as I thought it would be. It’s certainly not as good as the first, but still decently entertaining. Plus, this is my 200th horror review I’ve done, so that’s cool. This movie is definitely a little more outlandish than the previous, which gives it a cornier and sci-fi(ish) kick. It brings back some familiar faces, which was nice to see, but also didn’t entirely feel original. The story basically provides the same events of the first movie, just with some small additions and a new, bonus antagonist. There’s really not a whole lot to say about the plot. It just picks up where the first left off, and deals with (mostly) the same characters and events. But, I still liked it, mostly because of the practical effects. The amount of makeup and gruesome effects were amazing. It just makes me so happy to see movies like this. They feel so much more authentic, and you appreciate the effort the crew put into it. And that’s really all there is to it for this movie. It’s simple, but provides a usually fun time, and plus, you get to see a bit more of this franchise’s version of Hell. It’s not what you'd expect. Overall, the movie sometimes lacks originality, but it’s not a bad sequel. I’d probably recommend it to most horror fans.
