Presence (2025)
Presence
I finally watched my first 2025 release, three and a half weeks into January. It’s the first film that actually looked decent to me, so I have officially gotten the ball rolling. So far, I’m off to a good start. This is easily one of the most unique horror films I’ve seen in recent years, and I’ll tell you why. However, it’s a SPOILER, so stop reading if you’re worried about it. The reason this film is so great is because the whole thing is in the POV of the spirit that roams the house. It’s such a great concept that was executed beautifully. It took me a little bit to catch on, but once you figure it out, you’re in total awe of how everything is being filmed. I just love how you’re placed as the observer and you’re thrown in the middle of all the tension between the family. Like I said, it’s a great concept that really works. That’s the biggest standout of this film. Besides the way it was shot, everything else was decent, but not amazing. The acting was pretty solid from everyone, but nobody stood out in a big way. The plot was also not anything super great. Most of it felt paper thin, at least until the last couple scenes. I did like how it kept me guessing to the end, but it didn’t necessarily feel new. But the whole vibe of the family drama mixed with the supernatural was great. Not scary (to me, at least), but very eerie and suspenseful. Overall, this is a solid horror film that delves into supernatural and psychological elements, and I’d probably recommend it to most horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
