• This was a very interesting movie. It’s based on the nun demon that shows up in The Conjuring 2, so you already have a little bit of knowledge going into this movie. However, this one provides origin and backstory. To me, it was definitely a bit confusing, as well as hard to pay attention in several spots. It seems all over the place to me, which makes it a little hard to sit through sometimes. Although there were some scenes that were pretty entertaining, the actual story was dumb. I liked the bits of interesting information that the movie gives you, but besides that, it was boring. Despite the slow story, the characters were decently good. I enjoyed most of them, and they added some fun stuff to the movie. But even when they were at their best, the movie still wasn't super great. I did enjoy most of the effects as well. Though some were mediocre, many of them were pretty terrifying, and I absolutely love the design of Valak. But even though the effects were good, the scares weren’t super great, and I never really found any of them actually scary. There were a couple minor jumpscares that got me, but besides those, it wasn’t anything special. The music wasn’t too great, either. Although it had a sinister tone, it definitely doesn’t stand out. It contributes to the horror element of the movie, but it wasn’t too prominent anywhere else. Overall, I do like this ones, but it's definitely one of the weaker movies in the ConjuringVerse. I'd probably recommend if you like horror/supernatural stuff, but you aren't missing anything if you don't see it.
