Catch Me If You Can (2002)
Catch Me If You Can
I saw the 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and the 4.0 on Letterboxd, so I figured this must be good. But WOW I was not ready for that. Of course, I did have a complaint, which is that it felt a bit long, and there were definitely some small unexplained thingies, but besides those, this movie is FANTASTIC. It’s hard to find any flaws at all. Steven Spielberg once again shines with another A+ movie, and if you’ve seen this, then surely you’ll understand what I’m saying. There’s really not much I want to say for spoiler reasons, so I’ll keep this somewhat short. The story, inspired by the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr, is decently quick paced, so you’re constantly entertained. There’s always some kind of detail to pay attention to. That’s one thing Spielberg is so good at. He always gives you something to watch out for. Besides that, I won’t say much more about the plot, just because it needs to be experienced for yourself. Leo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks both give memorable performances, and definitely some of my favorites from them. The rest of the cast is star studded too, with familiar faces like Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, Amy Adams, and many others. Lastly, John Williams comes in clutch with another amazing score, and the inclusion of some very good (and very fitting) songs. “Come Fly With Me”, “The Girl from Ipanema”, and “Take the A Train” were some of them, all of those being some of my favorite swing/jazz songs ever. Also, the James Bond and ‘Goldfinger’ references? YES PLEASE. Overall, this movie is nearly perfect, and you can really see the inspiration it had on some of Spielberg’s other films, such as ‘The Adventures of Tintin’. I’d highly recommend this movie to all drama/crime fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
