Ghostbusters II (1989)
Ghostbusters II
As expected, this was a dumber and not as fun sequel. It wasn’t horrible, just a slight downgrade. I think the biggest thing I had a problem with was the return of the characters. Now that probably doesn’t make sense, so let me explain. The first movie really establishes their personalities, and how unique they are. In this one, there’s nothing really special or new about them. They show up and do their thing, and that’s about it. It’s just another movie showing another adventure. In that sense, it was silly and goofy (just like the first one), so I still enjoyed it. Just not as much. The story was meh, mostly because it’s nothing unique. I already used this comparison for the first movie, but I’ll use it again: it felt kind of like Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark?. That same cheesy look and feel, but the kind of feel that makes you feel good inside. Of course, the comedy is great again, with fun performances from the guys. I love them all. Finally, the special effects were a bit worse than the first movie, but very fun to watch and laugh at. Overall, this movie is occasionally crappy but also supplies laughs and a couple fun (and very interesting) sequences. I’d recommend it to most comedic horror fans.
