Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Bride of Frankenstein
Here is a great example of a sequel that is better than the first movie. Much like the previous one, I do think this one is slightly overrated (I’m going off the Rotten Tomatoes critic score). I did enjoy it more than the first, though. You get a great look at the monster’s humanity, in terms of emotions. The first movie paints him as a crazy killer monster, but you see more sympathetic moments in this, with some intellectual growth. The monster was written in a beautiful way. And Boris did a fantastic job, once again. He has a terrifying look, but like I said, you see his sense of hurt and compassion through his scary, physical look. One thing I was very disappointed in was the lack of screen time for the Bride, but when she’s in this, she takes the spotlight. She’s both beautiful and also a little creepy, so basically perfect for the monster. It was a great story, and though not always familiar to everyone, it’s still iconic. Especially if you’ve seen ‘Young Frankenstein’, which basically combines both movies. There isn’t much more I want to say, because this is just a good movie that you should see for yourself. Nothing ridiculously crazy, but well made. I’d definitely recommend it to old horror fans, just make sure to see ‘Frankenstein’ first. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
