Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992)
Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth
I’m at the point in the franchise where it’s heading downhill, definitely more quickly than slowly. From my experiences with horror franchises, usually only the first one or two installments are good, with everything else being extremely unnecessary and just flat out bad. The only exception I’ve seen is the Scream franchise. For this particular, we’re at that point. This one didn’t make a whole lot of sense, and there were several times where I had a hard time figuring out what was going on. THere were so many random jumps between scenes that made zero sense. The story was kind of like the first two, with some sacrifice and a (somewhat) fun showdown. Nothing really new, though it does a good job of moving on from past characters and setting up new ones. The acting was downright awful, with Pinhead being the only memorable character. I did like how he had way more screen time in this one, and you actually get to see what he’s immortalized in horror history. But that’s only one of the few highlights of this. The makeup and practical effects were still good, though much more mild than the first two movies. Overall, this movie just wasn’t good, with crappy writing, overused themes, and horrendous acting. There were some moments I really liked, but there is definitely more bad than good.
