Being the Ricardos (2021)
Being the Ricardos
As a kid, I grew up watching I Love Lucy, so being able to get a biopic about Lucy and Desi’s marriage/professional relationship was a real treat. Both Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem hit a home run with their roles, both in terms of physical likeness, as well as their personalities. Kidman was especially amazing, because she was able to perfectly replicate the mannerisms of Lucille Ball, and in several scenes, she really made me think that she was Lucy. One thing I really liked about this movie was how they had breaks in between the scenes, where they interviewed the people portrayed in the movie. Unfortunately, those who were interviewed were actually just actors who portrayed the characters being portrayed, which makes absolute zero sense. Although it was a cool and interesting way to help tell the story, it was really misleading. However, the rest of the movie was really good. The cinematography was great, and the movie helps show a side of Lucy and Desi’s marriage that many people may not know about. The best part of the movie was easily the score. It was extremely beautiful and really well written, and it reminded me of several different other movies. There were some scenes that reminded me of “Philadelphia Morning” which was played in Rocky, and another scene almost had a Psycho feel to it. Overall, it was really well made, and I’d definitely recommend it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
