Dumb Money (2023)
Dumb Money
I was pretty excited about this when it came out, but I’m kind of glad I waited to watch it on streaming, rather than in theaters. It was kind of disappointing, although I still liked good chunks of it. The story itself was interesting, but I don’t think it was executed in the best way. It was alright, but it felt a little sloppy and very fast at times. I always love movies based on true events, so this was both entertaining and educational. I’m not as big a fan of stock market stuff, like movies such as ‘The Big Short’ or ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’. This kind of felt like those, just a more dumbed down version. Anyways, the story was about all the GameStop stock drama a couple years ago, which I remember hearing about (but not caring that much). I think most of the actors really add some personality to the movie, especially Paul Dano. That man is just the absolute bomb, and he always kills it, no matter what the movie. It’s actually a pretty stacked cast, with Pete Davidson, Nick Offerman, Seth Rogen, America Ferrera, and more. Everyone did a great job of being both comedic and also serious, which fits the tone really nicely. One big complaint I have was the song choices. It was full of very explicit rap, which I guess does fit the time and setting, but a personal setback for me. Overall, this movie was decent, but nothing spectacular. It’s not one I think I’ll watch again, but it was good for a one time watch, I guess. I’m not totally sure if I’d recommend this (depends on your taste), but if you like financial movies, like the ones I mentioned earlier, then this is for you.
