The Seventh Seal (1957)
The Seventh Seal
Alright, before I get tarred and feathered here, I would like to justify why I only gave this movie an 8/10. My first impression was that there is a lot to take in, and I need to let everything settle in my mind. I can certainly see myself enjoying this way more on a second viewing, once I already have an idea of everything that will happen. I loved the idea of the movie, and all the characters, and the ways they interact with each other. It’s a very well made period piece. In regards to the plot, I love how philosophical it gets, while still being entertaining. There are great conversations with deep meaning, but on the flip side, there are some scenes that just seem random, even though they aren’t. The dynamic between all the characters and Death was great. Also, the way everything progresses as the movie goes on keeps you pulled in. My biggest gripe (if you could call it that) is that it felt slow and occasionally a little confusing. I wouldn’t say it was actually confusing, but personally, I just got a little lost at points. But, I think that’ll change when I rewatch it. Overall, it’s pretty good, though I’m gonna rate it a little lower than most people would. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
