Dirty Dancing (1987)
Dirty Dancing
I never had high expectations for this, but it was still a bit disappointing. I love romance movies, but this one just didn’t cut it. There were several scenes that I really liked, which were mostly all the dancing ones. I really love the effort and skill that the actors put behind the choreography, so those scenes always intrigue me. However, most of the stuff in between those scenes were a bit dull. The plot felt pretty thin, as it didn’t feel like it was leading anywhere at all. I did really enjoy Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, who did an awesome job. Some of their lines felt a bit forced, but for the most part, I loved their chemistry. All the other characters sucked. It was definitely a cheesy movie, with your classic mushy gushy love stuff. The dancing easily makes up for all the cheesy stuff. Like I said, the choreography was great. I enjoyed every second of it. The iconic lift was so awesome at the end, accompanied with the awesome soundtrack. Corny 80’s music, but still awesome. I also loved the use “Be My Baby”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, and “Stay”. Overall, the movie wasn’t super great, but still had some awesome moments. I’d probably recommend it if you like corny 80’s dance movies, such as Footloose. It’s not one I think I’d watch again anytime soon, but I’m glad I’ve seen it.
