Taxi Driver (1976)
Taxi Driver
Good grief, this is a good soundtrack. I’ve listened to it so many times, and it’s definitely one of my favorites. The entire thing is purely original score, and all instrumentals (except for one track). Despite how freaking good it is, there’s not a whole lot to talk about. I would definitely recommend seeing the movie first before listening to this, as you will enjoy it so much more. Also, when it comes to “music making the movie”, this is a great example. It gives the movie so much authenticity. The score was done by Bernard Herrmann, which was actually his last piece of work before his death. Scorsese actually said: “It supplied the psychological basis throughout.” I absolutely agree with that in every case. You can hear each instrument all through the entire score, especially awesome standouts from the sax and trumpets. It’s just so beautiful yet mysterious, and it’s one you need to hear for yourself. The main theme is used repetitively, which I really liked. It’s easily one of the best movie themes ever. I can’t stress enough how good it is. Just please go listen to this soundtrack. It just gives you an easy going but almost intense feel, all at the same time. It’s mysterious and blues-y, while still being hauntingly gorgeous. I would highly recommend everyone check it out. This soundtrack is officially Berry Approved, so go give it a listen!
