Spirited (2022)
Spirited
I really didn’t know much about this movie, besides the fact that it was a musical and it was based on A Christmas Carol. I was really amazed by how good it was, and it’s easily one of the best Christmas movies most recently released. It was super entertaining, and extremely funny throughout the entire thing. It was a very different take on the traditional Christmas Carol story, and although the Muppet Christmas Carol is still my favorite take, this one was still really good. It was very lighthearted and comedic, with plenty of laughs. Although it was hilarious, there were still some dark scenes and powerful messages throughout the movie. One of the best messages given to the audience is the effects of cyberbullying and the dangers of social media. Without saying what happens, the movie gives a really authentic example and the dangers of bullying people online. You never know what’s going on in someone’s head, so you should always be careful what you say to someone on social media. Another nice thing about the movie is how it’s set in the present day, but also uses the old Scrooge setting as well. It mixes both time periods, which was a new but awesome spin to the story. The music was also phenomenal. I never would have dreamed of seeing Will Farrell and Ryan Reynolds in a musical, but it happened, and it worked. Farrell did a surprisingly good job with his songs, and Ryan also did an awesome job. Each song added something special to the scene, and the choreography was really well done. The rest of the score was really great as well. There were some really beautiful string arrangements done, and I loved it. The last thing I’ll mention is the Christmas references throughout the movie. The Christmas party scenes were nice because you could have fun picking out all the Christmas character costumes in the scene. And Will Farrell running into someone dressed as Buddy the Elf was probably the best moment of the movie. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now! Good afternoon!
