The Killer (2023)
The Killer
I gotta say, this wasn’t as good as I was expecting it to be. I mean, the movie itself was well made, but for me personally, I didn’t find it as entertaining as I thought it would be. Still good, but not mind blowing or anything. Maybe I got my expectations too high or something, I don’t know. I think a lot of it felt a bit familiar to other movies in terms of story and characters, so in a way, it was kind of like I’d already seen it. I obviously haven’t until now, but it just didn’t feel like it was anything new. I’m not trying to throw any shade at David Fincher either. The movie itself was pretty good, and it leans into the psychological aspect along with the physical action. You get the chance to analyze several things throughout the movie, some things that are just something you see, other things where you have to feel and interpret them. I can’t really elaborate because you need to watch this to understand the main narrative and dialogue. Those things felt new, but the overall story just felt similar to Rambo or John Wick. Like I said, a lot of this involves the mind rather than just an assassin doing assassin things. Michael Fassbender does a great job of doing both physical tasks and showing the mental side of offing someone. I’d definitely say he’s brought one of my favorite performances this year. Everyone else was good, but he was obviously the center of the movie, and he should be very proud. I know this review probably feels a bit scrambled, cause I kind of just threw everything together, but it’s whatever. Overall, this movie didn’t always feel new and exciting to me, and several bits of it reminded me of previous movies I’ve seen. This was good, but not really what I was expecting. I’d probably recommend it to crime/drama/thriller fans, though this may not be for everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
