Child's Play (2019)
Child’s Play (2019)
This is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, compared to the original. I know it’s a reboot, so it’s both similar yet different, but either way, it wasn’t a necessary movie. I did actually like a good chunk of it, but it really doesn’t add anything new to the Child’s Play franchise. Just another movie about a killer doll. One thing I really liked was the modern take on Chucky and the doll company. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t Good Guys, but the AI aspect was cool. It’s similar to ‘M3GAN’ if you liked that. If you’ve seen this, then you know. The whole “intelligent and talking robot that goes crazy” thing was pretty nice. At some points, I actually started feeling sympathetic for Chucky, which doesn’t happen much in horror movies. Mark Hamill does a great job. He’s no Brad Dourif, but if there’s a man to do it, it would be Mark. It was definitely hard not seeing Chucky as a doll possessed by a serial killer, compared to a form of AI. The anger and malice that the original Chucky has is unmatched, and I missed that. But this Chucky was still cool in his own ways. Also, his design isn’t super great, either. It was also nice to see Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry. Both did a good job. The special effects and CGI were pretty good in this as well, and it gives it a realistic feel. Overall, this movie was decently made, and though it doesn’t hold up to the original, it was still pretty fun throughout. I’d probably recommend it to horror fans, but only if you’ve seen the first Child’s Play.
