Orphan (2009)
Orphan
Although the story is very unique, overall, I didn’t really care for this movie that much, but there were definitely some scenes that were pretty crazy. One thing I absolutely hated about this movie was the beginning scene. It was extremely disturbing, as well as useless and pretty uncalled for. In fact, after the opening scene, I nearly turned the movie off, cause I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to continue watching or not. Of course, that’s what a good horror movie does to you, but even for a horror movie, I think the opening crossed a line. Besides that, the rest of the movie was decently good, but really not scary at all. It was more suspenseful than actually scary, and though there were a few minor jumpscares, the movie relied more on the unique story than cliche scares. Isabelle Fuhrman did a pretty good job, and for a young actress, she was really able to bring out the creepiness of a crazy child. I did enjoy the music, and even though it did sound like your typical horror soundtrack, some of the scenes had a very Psycho-y feel to them, which I enjoyed. Overall, I don’t think I’m gonna watch it again, but I would probably say it is worth watching at least once.
