Blink Twice (2024)
Blink Twice
Alright Zoȅ, it’s time for you to go on a generational directing run. Just based on how this one was, I can see the thirst she has to make something thrilling and exciting. I loved how this borders on psychological horror and a straight up thriller. I mean, it’s technically both, which is why it’s so great. It reminded me a lot of ‘Saltburn’, but about 50x better. The story is nice because at first it seems very carefree and easy, until you start looking at the small details and realize not everything is as it seems. It did feel like other thriller-y films I’ve seen, such as ‘Saltburn’, as I noted, as well as ‘The Most Dangerous Game’ and ‘The Menu’. On that note, not everything felt super original, but a good portion felt new and fresh. All the performances were pretty great, and helped add the very suspenseful element. All the males just felt so….off, which was the point. All the females felt very puppeteered, not in the sense of forced dialogue, but that they were so happy, you know something was wrong. Maybe that makes sense, I’m not sure. You’ll understand what I mean when you watch this. The cinematography was great, and the visuals help you get lost in the ‘Blink Twice’ world. I love the colors and warmth, up until a certain moment where everything gets real. And that’s all I can say. Finally, the soundtrack and sound was fantastic, with some nice inclusions of James Brown. Overall, this film was very solid, and a great debut for Zoȅ Kravitz. I am very excited to see what she cooks up in the future. I’d recommend this to most suspense/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
