My Cousin Vinny (1992)
My Cousin Vinny
This movie was about what I expected it would be, except that it added so much more that made it absolutely phenomenal. I knew it was gonna be good because Joe Pesci was the main lead, and I absolutely Joe Pesci. He did such a great job, and it was unlike any of his other characters. He still had the classic “tough guy” kind of look, but more laid back compared to his roles in Goodfellas or Casino. Like I started this off saying, it was close to what I expected story-wise, and I really enjoyed it. I didn’t realize that the movie was a comedy, so I was laughing way more than I thought (which was awesome in this case). I figured it was just a courtroom drama, which technically it is, but I absolutely loved the laughs that the movie provides. It also does a fantastic job of keeping you in suspense while still being lighthearted. The trial drama combined with the hilarious dialogue and unfortunate situations really made it a great combination. All the characters were great, and helped add the funny feel. As I mentioned, Pesci was the standout, but don’t turn your back on Marisa Tomei. She added so much personality to her role, and her Academy Award was well deserved. It was also cool to see Ralph Macchio as someone besides Daniel LaRusso. I had no idea he was in it, so it was a nice surprise. The music was pretty decent, though I wasn’t a huge fan of it. To me, it reeked a little too much of the early 90’s. Overall, this movie was absolutely awesome, and I would highly recommend it to all comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
