Chicken Run (2000)
Chicken Run
As much as I love and support stop motion, I will say this movie was a tiny bit too much for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was very well made, but it did get old very quickly. I still enjoyed it, though. When it comes to stop motion, I’m into much more deeper movies like ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ or ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio’. This one just felt like it’s more for the younger audience. But I still really appreciate and respect the effort that went into it. The story was solid, but like I said, it gets old for me a little too fast. It just felt a bit repetitive, which makes it slightly hard to pay attention to. But that’s not a huge knock against the Movie Score or anything. I really loved all the characters, and though some feel the same, there’s plenty of very personable chickens. That sounds weird, but it makes sense if you’ve seen this. I loved Rocky and Fowler, and of course Ginger. They were all lovable and well designed. And of course, the stop motion was flawless. It’s by the same people who did Wallace & Gromit, so you know it’s gonna be good. Everything is so smooth. The amount of effort that goes into these films is insane, and coming from someone who has dabbled in stop motion short films, my level of respect is through the roof. Overall, this movie is well made and fun for families, but personally, I definitely feel too old for it at times. But it’s still fun to watch every now and then.
