Novocaine (2025)

My boy Jack Quaid is always amazing, even at his lowest, and he certainly doesn’t disappoint in this film. He’s the only reason I went to see it, just because I love how comedic he is, while still being dramatic. His range is awesome, and some of the best you’ll see from any young actor. I’m glad I did go see this, because it’s super fun, though it does feel a little long. Starting with the flaws, I think it overstays its welcome by about 15ish minutes. By the end, I was kind of relieved it was over, because it felt like it had a couple different natural endings, and then more stuff happened. There’s also a lot of cliches that you see in other action/heist/hostage films, but that’s to be expected. Besides that, this film is refreshing in the sense of preventing new character traits not always seen in these kinds of action films. I’m of course referencing the fact that Nathan Caine can feel no pain. You see that a lot in superhero films, but in this one, it’s a nice touch. That element makes it more comedic, while still making the character vulnerable and sensitive. Jack Quaid really is the perfect person to play Nathan. His line deliveries and facial expressions are so hilarious, and he’s really what makes this film so fresh. Nothing against Jason Statham or those big name action guys, but it’s time to bring in some young blood, and Jack is it. Anyways, the action in this is great, with some over the top moments that are both silly yet epic. I also love the use of blood and gore. I guess my last thought is that in a world full of pointless action films, this is one that sticks out in many ways. Yes, it has its faults, but not enough to make it like others. I’d recommend it to most action/adventure fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
