Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Dumb and Dumber
‘Dumb and Dumber’ certainly has reached iconic status, and I’ve heard it quoted all the time. I definitely enjoyed it, though it’s about one of the dumbest movies I’ve seen. Of course, that’s the point. You’re not supposed to watch this for character development or plot structure. It’s just two dudes who are down on their luck, and unfortunate things just keep happening. It’s very silly, very stupid, and very funny. The chemistry between Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels is awesome and hilarious, and the way you can feel how genuine it is really makes the movie what it is. Supriginsly, they weren’t too obnoxious, which is not what I was expecting. I was thinking it was going to be extremely over the top, but it wasn’t. They each have their moments, but nothing that made me want to skip the scene or anything. They’re very memorable characters, and the goofiness was perfect. The jokes were great, the physical humor was great, everything about them was great. I also like how they are the story. The main plotline is just a standard comedy with a slight spy/mafia touch, but the entire thing is centered on Harry and Lloyd. They’re the bright spot. I don’t really have that much more to write because I’ve said everything I’ve needed to. The writing is weak and corny, but it’s still an enjoyable movie that does a good job of being funny without being too raunchy. I can see myself watching this again, and I’d recommend it to most comedy fans.
