The Departed (2006)
The Departed
Despite this movie being slightly disappointing, it was still good and I enjoyed it. Just because I didn’t like it as much as I thought doesn’t make it a bad or boring movie. I think it just felt a little bit too long, but if you look past that, this movie is really good. The nice thing is that I knew very little about the movie, so everything was new for me. I only knew that Damon, Leo, and Nicholson were in it, so as I went through the movie, there were several nice surprises. I am a huge fan of movies that involve organized crime or gangs or whatever, so this one was very fun. The story falls right into that, and you get a great look into both sides of the law. I love how it's almost a cat and mouse game, but still keeps it somewhat civil (and definitely somewhat uncivil). The characters were really great, as the cast was absolutely stacked. Of course, you have the awesome trio of Damon, Leo, and Nicholson, but you also get more: Farmiga, Sheen, Baldwin, and to my great excitement, Marky Mark. I had no clue Mark was in this, so when he first showed up, I got so pumped. Anyways, all the cast fit their roles well, and as I said, the team up of Damon, Leo, and Nicholson was so beautiful. The score was fantastic, as well as the inclusion of several awesome songs. I want to point out that they used “Sail On, Sailor” by the Beach Boys, so that sent me through the roof. I also really loved (in an odd way) the fake blood in this movie. It seemed much darker than usual, so it made it feel more real. My favorite part of the whole movie was probably the last 15ish minutes. I have to say that it’s one of my favorite movie endings of all time. It totally caught me off guard, but I love how it wraps everything up and brings it to a stunning but almost comforting conclusion. Overall, this was a very well made movie, and though I thought it was a bit slow and drawn out, I still liked it. I would recommend it to all crime/drama fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
