Saw X (2023)
Saw X
Tobin freaking Bell. Shawnee freaking Smith. Billy the freaking Puppet. What more could you possibly want? This was such a fun movie to watch, especially seeing old faces return. I love how it’s more of a prequel rather than a continuation of the present Saw storyline. Technically, it does continue the storyline, but you get to go back to the earlier years of the franchise. This one takes place between ‘Saw’ and ‘Saw II’, so it adds even more story for Kramer’s character, and during a familiar time in the franchise. It works so well. The story was well written, and a brilliant look into his character development. Also, the dynamic between him and Amanda is awesome. I still can’t get over their return. Being able to see a Saw movie in theaters (with some original cast) was a dream come true. The traps were some of the best of the franchise, even though it definitely took a little bit of time to get to them. Speaking of which, the movie did feel a little bit slow to me. A lot of it is much more of a character study, so it can feel like it drags on at times. However, once it picks up, it picks up. There were also a couple things (story-wise and character-wise) that I didn’t agree with, nor I thought made much sense. That’s the big reason I knocked off several points. But it’s still such a fun and interesting movie, with great effects and an awesome soundtrack. I would definitely recommend it to all Saw fans. Plus, it has one of my favorite post credits scenes of all time. ALL TIME. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
