Alice, Sweet Alice (1976)
Alice, Sweet Alice
I’m not totally sure what I was expecting going into this movie, but I have to say, it definitely has some fun surprises and great vibes. There’s just something about 70’s horror that hits so hard. Now this one isn’t anything too crazy, and I’d rank it as just average. It has its ups and downs, but the ups are really up. Like I said, this movie has great vibes. The slightly grainy quality of the movie makes it feel haunting and ominous, even in the normal, more laid back scenes. Just the creepiness is enough to make it iconic. The story wasn’t spectacular, but still interesting and investing. There’s a couple little fun twists, and not everything is as you think. Especially the killer reveal, and the ending. It’s a nice little “you weren’t ready for that” moment. The characters weren’t all the best, though the performances were solid (but sometimes cheesy). Paula Sheppard has a memorable performance as Alice, and though it’s not groundbreaking or anything, it sticks with you. And it’s cool to see Brooke Shields in her big screen debut. And that’s really all there is to it, I can’t think of much more to add. The movie is nothing super special, but it has some great scenes and a spooky, get-under-your-skin feeling. I don’t think I’d watch it again, but I’d probably recommend it to fans of older/classic horror/thrillers.
