Jason X (2001)
Jason X
To my greatest surprise, this wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It definitely wasn’t good, but I think it had its interesting moments. I think at this point, the writers kind of ran out of ideas, and decided to make this. It probably worked for the time it was made, but looking at it now, I don’t think it’s aged super well. It’s just kind of this random installment in the franchise, and certainly doesn’t make sense continuity-wise. It technically doesn’t have to, because it’s kind of cool to have a random standalone FT13 film. You don’t have to really see the other ones to know much about it. The story felt cliche but also (somewhat) unique at the same time. It was very different compared to the others, which is why. The setting is awesome, as well as the futuristic vibe. It’s a good game changer for the franchise. However, because of that, it feels so random and pointless. It was extremely corny and cheesy, kind of like a really bad Star Trek episode (but with an undead/cybernetic serial killer). The acting was pretty trash for the most part, although there were a couple really good live deliveries. The effects were somewhat decent for 2001 effects. Both of Jason’s designs were actually decent, although unorthodox. His cyborg look was pretty sweet, and I actually really liked it. It was different, but still cool. Overall, this movie wasn’t well made at all, but it was still refreshing and fun at times. Not one I’d necessarily watch again, but it’s definitely one to watch if you decide to do a FT13 marathon.
