Incantation (2022)
Incantation
It’s been a while since I’ve seen some foreign horror, so watching this was a nice change of pace. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a super huge fan of it. The story was my biggest issue. From a writing perspective, I thought it was very well done. It involves way more than a supernatural force. It made it feel unique and new, rather than just being a random ghost or evil entity. Culture and tradition was a huge part of the progression of the story. It worked out really well. However, I got lost up in it, and somewhat lost interest after a little bit. I didn’t get bored, I just didn’t care as much as I did in the beginning. I think the run time was too long, which made the movie lose its authenticity. It felt dragged on. But as a whole, I thought the pacing was good, just long. I didn’t like any of the characters, either. They were all stupid and lacked common sense, although some of the more “odd” and older characters were creepy and cool. The thing I loved the most was the found footage mixed with the makeup and gross stuff. It forces you to think that what you’re watching is actually happening. Kind of like ‘Hell House LLC’ or ‘Blair Witch Project’. Overall, this movie was decently made, although it definitely lost me several times. I’ll visit this one again in the future, because I can see myself enjoying it more the second time. I’d probably recommend it to most horror fans, especially if you like analog/found footage styles.
