Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Thor: Ragnarok
Often regarded as the best Thor film, I would definitely have to agree. Although I think it was the best, there were several scenes that I didn’t care for, and I still think the first Thor is my favorite. The overall story was decent, but like I said, there were several scenes that I thought were downright weird, and I didn’t care for it that much. I hated what was done to Hulk’s character, and although some of it makes sense, I thought it was unnecessary. In regards to characters, I think Loki was wasted in this movie, and he was there just to be there. I’m not saying he was wasted, but I just didn’t like how he just stood around half the time. Now I loved Jeff Goldblum, and I loved both his acting and his character. I was really surprised when he showed up, as well as excited. The character I definitely loved the most was Thor. Before this movie, I never really cared for him, but after watching Ragnarok, I can definitely say I’m a fan. There’s definitely some Avengers I love more, but Thor has definitely grown on me. His typical long haired look is good, but after his haircut and he loses his eye, that is the look I love the most. I really hope he keeps it going forward, which I don’t expect him to, but he just seems so much more rugged. I also like how he starts to resemble his father, which I thought was a nice thing to add. Cate Blanchett was also really great, and I was happy when she showed up as well. I loved her as Spalko in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, so getting to watch her play another villain was fun and entertaining. Like I said, the overall story wasn’t my favorite, and I thought it was really weird for a Thor movie. It felt more like a sci-fi/long Doctor Who episode more than a superhero movie, which was an unusual change of pace. Although the movie was good, it just didn’t have the Marvel/superhero feel to me. The music was really great though, and many of the themes were so fun to listen to in the climactic situations. It was blood-pumping and courageous, which is perfect for this type of movie. I also really loved the inclusion of Pure Imagination, which is the greatest song ever written for a movie. It gave the scene a great fantasy feel that the scene had, and it was perfect. Overall, this movie was well made, although I wasn’t a huge fan of certain parts. I would still recommend it, however. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
