Lights Out (2016)

Lights Out

  • This was definitely a one-of-a-kind horror movie. Almost everything about this movie was very unique and original, which you don’t often get in horror movies nowadays. The story was really interesting to watch, as it brings forth an entity that has an intriguing backstory. Usually with these kinds of movies, the entity is usually just the same evil force, with nothing in particular that stands out. But, like I said, the antagonist is original, with a unique backstory. It’s a very thrilling movie that has a great feel, and I loved watching the fight for survival from the characters. Speaking of characters, this was one of the very few horror movies where all of them were fun to watch. All of the characters were pretty well written, and I liked them all, which, as I said, is rare. I especially liked how the boyfriend was written. A lot of the time, the boyfriend character in these movies are obnoxious jerks who don’t add much to the story. However, in this one, he was supportive and willing to lend a hand, which was a really nice change. The acting was really great all around as well. Each actor was able to present their emotions in a great way. A lot of the time, you were also able to feel their fear as well. The music wasn’t super impressive, although it definitely added some intense feeling to the more climactic scenes. It was also prominent with the jumpscares, which was nice. The movie wasn’t super scary, but there were a couple jumpscares that were really nice, one in particular that got me good. But, it definitely has a very creepy vibe from start to finish. Overall, I’d definitely watch this again, and I’d recommend it to all horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
