Remember the Titans (2000)
Remember the Titans
As one of the most well known sports movies of all time, this one provides such a great message, as well as some good ol’ fashioned American football. It’s based on a true story, which only gives the movie a better feel. The most important thing about this movie is how it teaches love, teamwork, and above all, acceptance. It’s a message that everyone needs to see at least once. The story obviously is hugely made up of the racism in the 70’s, but it also provides some more light hearted scenes that contrast against the more serious plot. I love seeing the journey from tension to teamwork, as it’s inspirational, and a really great feel-good story. Plus, the iconic comeback football game was super exciting and absolutely awesome to watch. I liked most of the characters, and though some were racist jerks, all the portrayals were very well done. Denzel as Coach Boone was beautiful casting. He was able to show how a man like him in that time and setting could defy all odds. I also really liked Ryan Hurst and Daddy Gosling. I will say that several of the “high school” students definitely looked way too old, but that’s what you usually get with these movies. The music was pretty good, although it sometimes sounded cliche. It has the usual heroic/sport-y sound to it, which definitely helped add emotion to the final championship game. Overall, this was a pretty good movie, and it does a great job of bouncing back and forth between light hearted and heavy scenes. I’d definitely recommend it to everyone, especially those who love sports dramas. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
