Elf (2003)
Elf
This is definitely my favorite Christmas movie of all time. I absolutely love every second of it, and although some people think Will Farrell is obnoxious in this one, I think it’s one of the funniest movies ever made. Despite its comedic feel, there’s still a great message underneath. Not just one about Christmas spirit, but one about loving and accepting your family for who they are. I’m not really a huge fan of Will Farrell, but I absolutely love him in this role. I don’t think anybody could’ve pulled it off the way that he did. The rest of the cast was stacked as well. James Caan did a great job as Walter, and like Will, he perfectly fits his role. He does a great job of playing the disgruntled father type, who learns to appreciate his family. I also absolutely love Zooey Deschanel. She is insanely attractive, and her voice is pure gold. The last actor I’ll mention is Bob Newhart. Bob is one of the greatest actors/comedians to ever live, and being able to see him in this movie is absolutely awesome. The overall story is really fun and great, and it keeps you invested while still taking random breaks for some hilarious scenes. I mean, who doesn’t love a 10 second random burp? The soundtrack is also amazing. Including songs like “Pennies From Heaven” and “You Make Me Feel So Young” was the perfect way to make this movie fun without overusing Christmas songs. Even though I don’t think it’s possible to overuse Christmas songs, using a few that aren’t Christmas related is a nice change of pace. The addition of “Sleigh Ride” by Ella Fitzgerald is also amazing, and it’s one of my favorite (and one of the best) Christmas songs to ever be recorded. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie, and I watch it multiple times every November/December. Also, if you are interested, please ask me about my Elf/Godfather theories.
