High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008)
High School Musical 3: Senior Year
This may possibly be one of the most underrated movies of all time. The first time I ever saw it, I wasn’t a super huge fan. Upon a rewatch, I am actually blown away by how better it was the second time. Much like the first two HSM movies, it’s definitely cheesy and not super original. The plot is pretty much the same, but it does everything in such a personal way, that it sticks out more than the rest. The use of graduation and the senior prom (which you technically never actually see) really makes this movie relatable. It sends off the characters on a very encouraging note, and in a memorable fashion. In fact, I would be bold enough to say that I think this is the best movie in the trilogy. It’s the most visually stunning, with fantastic colors and great cinematography. Many bits of it remind me of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and ‘La La Land’. I never thought I’d say that, but I guess I just did. The thing that makes this movie exceed the others is the song and dance numbers. They are so elevated in quality, and they are much more theatrical. It does make the movie feel unrealistic, but in a good, heartwarming way. They’re all just so touching and fun. It’s crazy how good they are. Everything from the lighting to the costumes to the makeup. Worthy of Broadway. The soundtrack is just about perfect, and there isn’t a single song I don’t like. Especially “The Boys Are Back” and “Scream”. The vocals from Zac Efron are so on point. I could go on for about 3 more hours about this movie, but I’ll try to wrap it up. My last note is just about the Movie Score. Despite how much I’ve praised this movie, like I said, it’s corny and sometimes goofy. But in terms of enjoyment, it’s just about perfect. I’d recommend this movie to all musical fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
