Trick 'r Treat (2007)
Trick ‘r Treat
I didn’t enjoy this as much as I wanted to, but I have to say, the story is put together pretty well. When I finished it, it basically reminded me of a bunch of Goosebumps episodes thrown together (but obviously more violent). I’ve always liked Goosebumps, so in a way, this movie almost feels nostalgic. It’s got the cheesy horror feel, but without getting too cheesy. It had a good split of campy and serious. The overall feel was great. However, it definitely lost me in a few places. The story is non-linear, so it took me a while to really get a grasp of what I was watching. Everything connects at the end, but I was a wee bit confused at certain points. Also, because it has the campy feel it does, I kind of found myself zoning out a couple times. Not horribly, but enough to forget a little about what was going on. But I’m probably judging this a little too harshly. I think on a second watch, it will be better. The acting was decent all around, and like I said several times, it was cheesy but good. Some of it was definitely silly, but some scenes were enough to make you feel uncomfortable in a good horror way. The makeup and special effects were pretty good consistently, except for a few scenes. With it being based on Halloween, all the costumes and props were also fantastic. Overall, I’d say I decently enjoyed it, though I did lose focus a few times. I’d probably recommend this if you like somewhat corny but creepy horror movies.
