Batman & Robin (1997)
Batman & Robin
What killed the dinosaurs? THE ICE AGE! I don’t care what you say, this is an awesome movie. Is it horrible? Yes. But is it fun? Absolutely. If you asked me to describe it in one sentence, it would be this: it feels like a two hour level of Lego Batman (but live action). That gives you a sense of how ridiculous and campy the movie is. It also feels a lot like ‘66 Batman, so that also helps put into perspective how goofy it is. But that’s what makes it so fun, and many don’t realize that. The story is stupid, and it’s even more far fetched than Batman Forever. I really like the exaggeration of it. Many people who see it just see a bad movie, but I can’t stress this enough, don’t just look on the outside. Deep down, the characters (except Batgirl) and the plot give it such a joyous feel. George Clooney is actually a fun Batman, and I really enjoy his portrayal. I’m not saying he’s a great Batman, but he is very fun. I love his suits, especially the Ice Suit. The Ice Suit is a top 3 Batsuit to me, and I can’t get enough of it. I also really, really, really enjoy Robin’s black and red suit. It’s so freaking suit, and probably my favorite live action Robin suit (yes, it even tops Burt Ward and Brenton Thwaites). Scharwzenegger does an awesome job as Mr. Freeze, as well as having such a sweet look. Even though his ice puns go way over the top, I still love him. Uma Thurman is decent as Poison Ivy, and she greatly adds to the whole “level of Lego Batman” feel. The only person I truly hate is Batgirl, or “Barbara Pennyworth”. Not only is her character COMPLETELY wrong, Silverstone just did a horrible job. Also, most of the effects are very shoddy, as well as the dialogue. I did enjoy the score, and it has the same feel as Batman Forever. Overall, the acting isn’t great, the dialogue is crap (but still funny), the effects are horrible, and the movie is a mess. However, I absolutely love it. I wouldn’t really recommend it, unless you like cheesy superhero flicks. Just don’t forget your GothCard. Never leave the cave without it.
