Men in Black II (2002)
Men in Black II
This movie was definitely a step down from the first one, which was disappointing. This wasn’t necessarily a bad movie, but the majority of it was still pretty crappy. I liked the story, and it kind of had the same feel as the first one. However, there were several bits that were pretty boring. The movie felt really dumb and silly. Because of the aliens and technology, it had a flimsy sci-fi feel. The effects were pretty crappy, and they were definitely more laughable than the first movie. They were more noticeably horrible as well. Some of the CGI moments were somewhat decent, but like I said, you could definitely notice that CGI was used. The characters were pretty good, and I pretty much liked them all. I didn’t care for Tommy Lee as much as I did for the first movie. But Will Smith was still great and hilarious. I also liked the design for most of the aliens, but there were a few that were just straight awful. Knoxville’s character had a horrible design, although Knoxville was great. I also liked David Cross’s return, which was a very fun surprise. The music was good, as Danny Elfman continues to do great work in this series. The movie was prominent during several scenes, which helped add the fun yet serious mood to the movie. Overall, I probably wouldn’t watch this again, but I’d still recommend it to those who like sci-fi movies.
