A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)
A Quiet Place: Day One
I was anticipating this movie several months before it was released, mostly because ‘A Quiet Place’ is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. It’s so masterfully made, and I was hoping this one would follow in its steps. In many ways, it does, but in some ways, it’s nothing crazy. I really liked this one because of the way it focuses more on characters and chemistry rather than a bunch of scary stuff. There are definitely a couple moments that are creepy and got me good, but there’s also many touching moments that make the movie almost feel…artful. It’s so beautiful, despite being a horror movie. The chemistry between Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn was really good. Despite clashing a couple times, that also fit together perfectly and I love how they work off each other. The performances were good, but nothing super special. There’s a lot of emotion and communication through the eyes, which helped build the suspense. The scenes where there is no dialogue are absolutely fantastic. It’s so quiet, yet so loud at the same time. The sound was really good. The creatures are also amazing again. I will say though, I do have one big complaint, which is enough to keep this from getting an A rating (for now). Although the movie was really good, it doesn’t add anything at all to the Quiet Place trilogy. There’s nothing new added to the overall storyline. It’s just a couple people trying to survive when the events first happened. That’s basically it. It’s good, but it feels more like it was made just to make it, rather than to add anything to the trilogy. But I still love it. I’d recommend it to all horror/sci-fi fans, and you don’t need to see the other Quiet Place movies to understand this. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
