Get Smart (1965-1970)

  • My second favorite TV show of all time, this is one that I watch through all the time, and I absolutely love it. To me, it’s one of the funniest shows ever written, and both Mel Brooks and Buck Henry are absolute geniuses for making this. Every single episode has a great plot, and it’s nice because they all have their hilarious moments, as well as their funny ones. The whole premise of the show might seem a little cliche when it comes to spy movies/shows, but the writers give this show such a unique touch to it. All the crazy characters are awesome and funny, especially ones such as Hymie, Siegfried, the Craw, and of course, Larabee. None of the characters are bad (except for Quigley), and they all have their own special personalities that add something great to the show. The acting is really good, and though this show is cheesy, each actor is able to fit their character perfectly. The nice thing about this show is that there is almost always some kind of new character or villain that is added, except for the recurring ones. Each episode has a unique story, and even though KAOS is always the main antagonist organization, the stories are always different. I really love the character development in this show, and though several characters basically stay the same, it’s awesome to watch the lives of Max and 99 progress. Plus, the creation of Hymie was arguably the best thing they did with the show. The music overall is phenomenally good, especially the main theme. It has a great, catchy feel to it, as well as the action/espionage sound to it. Besides the main theme, the rest of the music is thrilling and suspenseful. THere are also several scenes where it will be laid back and almost melancholy, and the arrangements fit each episode well. No matter what the scene is, the music perfectly accompanies the mood and feel, which helps make this show so good. One of my favorite things about the shows is the awesome and beautiful cars, and all the crazy and unrealistic gadgets that the agents carry. It’s one of those shows that has weapons and devices that are outrageous, yet really cool and fun to think about. The catchphrases and quotes in this show are also iconic and memorable, and I use them all the time. It seems like every other sentence, something hilarious is said, and even though the best quotes are repeated often, they seem funnier every time. All of the dialogue in each episode is extremely well written and the beginning of each episode always hooks you. The only reason that this show doesn’t have a 100% Berry Score is because of the episode with Agent Quigley, which is a horrible episode. Besides that one episode, this show is literally perfect. Overall, this is legitimately one of the greatest shows ever made, as well as one of my favorites. I would HIGHLY recommend it to those who love comedy as well as action. This show is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
